Opinions of Greek Pre-Service Teachers about Morning Prayer in Greek schools
Abstract
The current paper discusses the opinions of undergraduate students concerning the management of religious diversity in the classroom. The purpose of this research is to explore students’ views on: The existence of prayer and churchgoing in school, the importance of religious education and celebration of religious festivals and the relations between teachers and parents of another religion and also with their community. The selection of measuring undergraduates’ views was made based on the fact that they are future teachers on one hand and, on the other hand, that there are not any studies concerning religious diversity as seen by future teachers. As an overall conclusion, the participants appear to have a positive and active attitude concerning religious diversity in schools. The research findings regarding the individual questions point out interesting and radical views on behalf of the undergraduates.
