Exploring the Augmented and Alternative Communication (AAC) for Promoting Independence in Daily Skills of Students with Learning Disabilities
Abstract
Augmented and alternative communication (AAC) in mobile apps can also be used to promote the independence of daily skills for students with learning disabilities. Teachers' experience in using the apps is important feedback to be evaluated as they are the main stakeholders as caretakers for students at schools. Teachers' feedback can help to improve the accessibility of the apps and the features that are most effective in supporting students with learning disabilities. Through semi-structured interview, teachers’ experience in using the AAC apps were evaluated in its effectiveness towards supporting students with learning disabilities. Voice recording technique also be used during the interview sessions for the researcher to verbatim transcribe teachers responds. In this research, it has found that visual schedule, visual cues, voice prompts, prompt and timer features have all been found to be highly effective in assisting students with learning disabilities in completing tasks based on teachers' experience in using the apps to support students with learning disabilities.
