EFFECT OF STUDENT DIVERSITY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CONSTRUCT OF INFERENTIAL STATISTICS

Saras Krishnan

Abstract

In assessing students’ learning of statistics in the higher education, assessments of the aspects of statistics that are indicative of students’ varying levels of statistical understanding are of particular importance. The development of an assessment instrument used to describe students’ understanding of inferential statistics in the form of a hierarchical construct has been previously discussed. This study explores the effect of diversity of two samples of students on the development of this construct. Results showed some significant effects in terms of the reliability and validity of the instrument and the samples of study.
