Dealing with Mixed-language Abilities in an English-Medium University Content Course

Abstract


Recently many universities in Japan have been increasing the number of content classes offered in English. From a teaching perspective, these classes come with a variety of challenges related to teaching university level content to groups of EFL students with very different individual the linguistic abilities. These challenges are further complicated when the classes are also offered to native-speakers of English. This paper aims to address some of these problems, and offer some solutions in the form of activities that were developed for a specific course at a university in Tokyo
